My Top Five Favourite Film Stocks in 2024
Compared to a few decades ago, there isn’t as much variety in film stocks. However, the trend for film photography is growing stronger each year, leading to manufacturers bringing back old film stock like Kodak Ektachrome 100 and creating new ones like Harman Phoenix 200. Some manufacturers like Cinestill and Flic Film also use Kodak products to create film stocks by repackaging cinema products like the Kodak Vision 3 line and other commercial-only stocks. In the end, we still have a decent selection when it comes to film stocks.
I’ve been shooting film for a little more than ten years now, which is only a teardrop in a lake compared to professional photographers who started with film. However, in those years, I was able to test a variety of films and eventually developed a preference for specific stocks. Here, I’ll share my top five favourite film stocks, discuss when I use them, and provide tips on shooting for the best results. Let’s get started.
