Stoechades

Horizons du Var | South of France

Another familiar place from my childhood is the southern coast of France, specifically around the Presqu’île de Giens. I have been visiting this region since I was a kid and have fallen in love with it, particularly the island of Porquerolles.

Unlike the glitzy French Riviera filled with yachts and excess, places like Porquerolles, Port-Cros, and the Presqu’île de Giens retain an authentic, natural, and unique charm. The region is stunning in both winter and summer, with the scent of sea spray and eucalyptus, the deep blue Mediterranean waves, and the songs of cicadas. The Greeks once named these islands Stoechades; today, they are known as Les Îles d'Or (the Golden Islands).
