Dehancer for iOS - Unleashing the Film Look on Your iPhone
I love taking pictures with my iPhone. It’s the perfect camera because it’s the camera that’s always with you. However, I often struggle with how a photo shot on an iPhone always looks like it was shot on a phone, not a dedicated camera. Despite Apple enhancing their cameras each year, they are still bound by the limitations of what a smartphone sensor can produce. Smartphone manufacturers have created powerful computational algorithms to counter these hardware limitations.
How? By merging several exposures to get the optimum exposure, colours, and sharpness. But sometimes, that over-processing can be jarring. I often use a mist filter to reduce the over-sharpness of the iPhone sensor, but it’s not the most convenient solution as I need to constantly mount the filter and an adapter on my phone. This makes the iPhone not so small anymore.
In addition, since I shoot a lot on film, I often try to match a film aesthetic with my digital work, whether it is shot on the iPhone or my mirrorless cameras. Over the years, I’ve tried several phone editing apps to replicate the magnetism of film with my iPhone images. From VSCO to the unfortunate discontinued Filmborn, film emulation apps are a great way to avoid the smartphone look in your pictures.
Discover the magic of the Dehancer App for iPhone and iPad in this comprehensive review and guide. Is this the ultimate tool for achieving that coveted film aesthetic? Let’s dive in and see!
